[Dustin] Pedroia re-injured his thumb in Oakland on Tuesday and will be placed on the disabled list before Friday’s game against the Yankees according to team sources.
Globe colleague Nick Cafardo reported earlier Thursday that Pedroia would not be available this weekend. Scott Lauber of the Herald then reported that Pedroia was headed to the DL.
Pedroia was injured trying to make a diving catch. He said on Wednesday that it was the other side of his thumb that was hurting this time. ...
If Pedroia's stint on the DL is back-dated to Wednesday, he would be eligible to return on July 19 and would miss 11 games. That assumes the injury is not more serious.
