Buchholz Likely Headed To DL

Clay Buchholz, who has the second best ERA and the top ERA+ in the American League, will not pitch in Tampa Bay next week. It looks like he will be the next Red Sox player to hit the disabled list.

Buchholz had been scheduled to throw a bullpen session yesterday, but that was scratched and he threw from flat ground instead.

How much more can they take?

Francona just denied this on WEEI pre-game. They are still evaluating.

I mean, I know the pre-game is taped in advance, but it did not sound like the DL is likely. It sounded like one of several possibilities, including just a little more rest and therapy.

'Oh no,' they said, 'he won't be on the DL. He'll be fine.' I can't believe I fell for it!

Hopefully if he does go he won't be gone long, and the Sox do have two young guys in AAA that are pitching pretty well and could come in and probably through a decent ball game (Doubront and Bowden).
