G1: Red Sox 9, Yankees 7

Yankees - 020 300 200 - 7 12 1
Red Sox - 010 013 31x - 9 10 0
After retiring the first five batters on 13 pitches, Beckett gave up solo dongs to Dumbo and Granderson -- and then singles to Swisher and Gardner. CI tangibly grounded out to end the second.

Youkilis doubled to start the second and Beltre brought him in with a one-out sac fly to deep center.

The bottom of the order got to Beckett in the fourth. Cano doubled and two outs later, Swisher walked. Then Gardner and Jeter singled -- and pulled somewhat of a surprise double steal. Beckett couldn't get the third out in the fifth and was pulled with two men on: 4.2-8-5-3-1, 94/54.

Two-out singles -- all crisp line drives -- by Drew, Cameron, and Scutaro brought in a fifth-inning run. An error moved the runners up, but Ellsbury struck out looking with runners at second and third. CC lost his command in the sixth. FY walked, Victor doubled into the left field corner, and Yook smoked a triple over Swisher's head into the right field corner. With one out, Beltre's single to Cano's right tied the game at 5-5. But New York came right back in the seventh. Ramirez put two guys on and Okajima let them come around to score.

The Sox took the lead after the stretch. Scutaro singled off Park and Pedroia homered to left. When Yook doubled, Marte came in and wild pitched him to third. Then Dumbo's passedballa (!!) gave Boston its first lead of the night.

In the eighth, Bard allowed a two-out walk, but retired Teixeira on an FC. In the home half against Joba, Cameron singled with one out and Scutaro walked. With two outs, Pedroia singled to right to make it 9-7.

In the ninth, Papelbon retired Slappy and Cano, then allowed a two-out single to Dumbo. He got Granderson to ground to third for the final out.

Beckett, RamRam and maybe Jeemer were shaky, and there were no real fielding gems. Damn shame we can't hit/score.

stop looking like poop vs cc, lbj, pls

allan said...

love the drake!

nick said...

poop.

allan said...

jesus.

SoSock said...

DAMMIT!
Lard-Ass abuses Ellsbury, again

allan said...

how did scutaro do that without leaping way in the air and making a big show about throwing to first?

nick said...

I am so tired of this obsession over lackey being 3rd in the rotation.

allan said...

ramram.

allan said...

or is it ram-s-ram now, with ram-a-ram in paw?

allan said...

but: if beckett was 3rd, they'd fuss over that. if lester was 3rd, they'd fuss over that.

who the fuck cares? he pitches every 5 games -- and that is that.

it seems like a problem every team would like to have.

Amy said...

Funny that both SoSock and JGF thought SCOOTaro was ScuTARo.

Edward Lee said...

Mike Cameron looks smooth in CF. I forgot what it was like to have a guy back there who can read the ball.

nick said...

xactly, RS.

I've conducted a casual experiment for a while. People ask me "How are you?" I say "Mostly alright" with an affirmative nod. A good truthful answer that y'know it's going pretty well..mostly good with some not-so that everyone has... Most common response: "Oh, what's wrong?"

allan said...

dear sox:

chb/borges/callahan are right now writing their "theo is dumb; no runs = no wins" columns. pls make all their work (at least as much as these hacks "work") a waste of time. cheers, thanks a lot.

Rally time

Amy said...

Interesting, Nick, but not surprising. If someone answered, "Oh, good," wouldn't that seem sort of cold? I mean, saying MOSTLY all right seems to be asking for people to ask what is not right.

allan said...

the globe has a slew of stories on various new stats to measure defense today. looks quite good. tag line for chb's contribution: don't trust stats, believe your eyes. (i'm not kidding)

Amy said...

I miss Tek a little less right now.

I guess I should change my avatar, huh?

allan said...

that's how we do.

allan said...

i'm not much of a grouch these days(or years), but ...

Patrick said...

I want a sweaty dong so hard!

Edward Lee said...

FINISH HIM

nick said...

c'mon Yoooooouuuuuk!

allan said...

anyone up for a -- err, ahem -- sweaty, hairy dong?

SoSock said...

YOOOOOOK

nick said...

I am so up for a sweaty, hairy dong right now.

Patrick said...

FUCK YEAH!!!!

allan said...

triple!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fuck yeah!!!!!

Unknown said...

TRIPLE!!!

nick said...

but I will take a sweaty, hairy triple!

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Woohoo, I finally get wifi in the sky, and triple for Youk!

SoSock said...

Again I say - YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Hello from 37,000 feet, everybody!

Patrick said...

God damn, this ish is exciting

nick said...

blogger definitely neurotic tonight with the double posts. I can't believe we're all this bad at the posts...

damn!

Amy said...

Hey, WCSox! How are the kids doing up in the air? And how the hell do they get wireless on the plane? I was so glad to have it on our last flight, but also amazed.

nick said...

hooray for technology, westcoastsox.

allan said...

Threads On A Plane!!!!

....

no more lil' tek?
it's the end of an era

Patrick said...

Before Ortiz made that out, FGs gave us a 55% chance of winning even though we were back a run.

crazy.

allan said...

YES!!!

Patrick said...

I LOVE THIS GUY!!!

Amy said...

TIED!! Holy shit!

SoSock said...

Hot Damn - New Game!

Unknown said...

But...but...the Sox can't score runs! Everyone knows that!

nick said...

I'm going with the fact that I drank some wine. Don't know if I've ever done that during a game (true). guess I've gotta drink every game this season.

Patrick said...

Good things we prevent a lot of runs, because we sure as heck can't score any.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

LOL, threads on a plane indeed. And thank god we got the seating all worked out (my kids were originally sitting next to a stranger who insisted on sitting next to them and not switching for an identical seat, but when my six year old burst into tears, sanity prevailed). Amy, I think I see someone on the wing with a giant wi-fi receiver. Yeah, that must be it.

allan said...

guzzlin' wine - those are the sacrifices we have to make, as fans.

Amy said...

It is the end of an era. Sort of sad, so I had to mark it in some way. Time to move on...

nick said...

I've also committed myself to a second glass.

Amy said...

Hey, you're a techy kind of guy. I figured you might know how they do that! :)

Patrick said...

Oh no, bullpen battles for 4 innings. This is gonna be nerve racking.

allan said...

shit, ramram. not good.

Dr. Jeff said...

Greetings everyone from New Mexico, very excited about the 2010 season. So awesome that we tied it up and knocked out CC. It's ON.

Patrick said...

If MDC and RamRam suck, this is gonna be a long year.

Amy said...

Blogger definitely behaving strangely. Guess it needed more time in spring training.

Dr. Jeff said...

I have my annual bet with a Yankee fan. $10 per series. Double if it's a sweep. Would be nice to win the first one.

Edward Lee said...

RRv2.0 still needs to be fixed.

Rob said...

I moved outside and pointed a speaker out here from my room and turned the radio on. This is a nice setup. Nice to hear Jon Rish wet himself in the booth with Youk's triple, too.

allan said...

cute pic, amy!

Amy said...

Thanks, Allan. Those my babies, all cuddled up together.

Amy said...

Well, we are behind again, but I already feel better.

A classic Sox/Yankees game, for sure.

Amy said...

NOW I am pissed off. Again.

allan said...

chan ho park up for the mfy.
that is good since we need runs

allan said...

thanks, jeemer. jeez.

allan said...

i really should do some work, but it involves transcribing, which would mean no audio of the game (and no video). may stay until 1 tonight.

Benjamin said...

...

allan said...

call it, west - you triple-chinned fuck.

nick said...

and that'll just be to the end of the gam, RS.

Benjamin said...

Runs, please.

Amy said...

Since when do we do GBA at Fenway?

nick said...

ouch.

Benjamin said...

Cher's really let herself go.

Amy said...

At least it's not that anti-Semitic tenor from the NYY...though I heard he was in Boston now.

allan said...

we need that irish jew-hater to do a 40-minute gba to throw the mfy off their game.

scoot
lbj
fy
victor
and so on

allan said...

HA!

good timing

Amy said...

Great minds and all that.

I sure hope the Sox haven't switched Sweet Caroline for GBA.

Benjamin said...

Sweet Caroline isn't until the 8th.

allan said...

gba for opening night, i guess. maybe sweet carolina in the 8th?

allan said...

mdc/bard up

park being park

Amy said...

Somehow I thought we were in the 8th. I must be tired. I mean, I AM tired. Got to get back into baseball form. I needed more spring training also.

nick said...

rally!

Edward Lee said...

Daniel Bard is wearing Julian Tavarez's old #51 now. I find this highly amusing.

allan said...

no fat man, so lbj can hit something now

Amy said...

Come on, LBJ. Do something productive.

Amy said...

LBJ, good thing Laura isn't here because I am thinking bad things about you both at the bat and in the field tonight.

allan said...

L: "You can tell the thread that the very first seconds of baseball I saw this year was LBJ. I walked in the house, turned on the TV, and he was walking to the plate."

And she gets to watch him K.

Amy said...

Uh oh, spoke to soon. Sorry, L.

Benjamin said...

!!!

Rob said...

FUCK YEAH!!!

Patrick said...

FUCKKKKK YEAAAHHH!!!!!1

allan said...

LASER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unknown said...

FUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Amy said...

Too soon.

FUCK YEAH!!! I LOVE YOU!!

Dr. Jeff said...

fuck yeah!!!!!

nick said...

Thinking the same thing, Amy but not nearly so eloquent...

FUCK YEAH, FY!!!!

Amy said...

Another double post, but I will leave that one.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

FY!!!!!

allan said...

thank you, chp.

Dr. Jeff said...

back to back would be nice

allan said...

it's a shame we have no thump or thunder.

Amy said...

Harv muttering and taking the dog out.

SoSock said...

Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanna have his babies.

nick said...

I meant to ask you a few innings ago, Amy, 'bout Harvey and how was is gloating going. I guess his gloat is taking the dog out.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Yeah, too bad our offense sucks this year, huh?

nick said...

Neil live in the 8th?

Amy said...

Harv doesn't dare gloat. It would be dangerous.

He did say something about how bad a manager Girardi is and was not otherwise persuaded even when I reminded him that this team won the WS last year.

allan said...

Harvey is correct. Shit, Gump got to ALCS7 in 2003. He was dogshit all year, but the team held on almost to the end despite him.

Rob said...

Hahaha Rish got Truped there.

allan said...

SWEAT POWRED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amy said...

OK, I love Youk also. He deserves the clean up spot...so far!

Amy said...

I don't dare tell Harvey he is right. He will think I am gloating.

SoSock said...

Doesn't this offense suck?
I know, it's the first game, and we haven't even won it or anything, but I'm glad to see this ball-smashing going on. Now if I could just see some of it tomorrow night when my 13-14s open their season........

allan said...

great inning because a lot of mfy fans hate fy and yook like nobody's business.

Amy said...

I am already tired of the Lackey - Orsillo commercial. Laughed the first time though.

Patrick said...

I want to see Ortiz get on base, that's all.

Amy said...

Wow, SoSock, LL starts already down there? I don't think we start here for a few more weeks. But I could be wrong.

allan said...

9.45 ERA last year?

allan said...

PASSEDBALLA!!!!!!!!!!!!

johngoldfine said...

I like that new avatar, amy, not that you can't go back if circumstances warrant--but didn't your change coincide with the RS tieing? Changing avatars could be a rally-maker!

SoSock said...

PASSEDBALLA!

Amy said...

Yes, JGF, the change did come at the same time as the tie. I hope Tek didn't mind the switch.

nick said...

A MFYfan facebook friend has confirmed his dislike of the sweaty one.

I want some big Big Papi love. even a single to right is good.

allan said...

amy: if you need a kid pic of any other sox, i might have them. a blog posted 8-9 of them a few years back.

Benjamin said...

!

Patrick said...

YESSSSS!!!!!! YOUUUUUUK!

Amy said...

WOW! Passedballa really does it!!

allan said...

PASSEDBALLA!!!!!!!!!!!!

ahahahahaahhqa

god he sucks

nick said...

fuckin' yeah!!!!!!!!!!! I'll still take the single.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

PASSEDBALLAPASSEDBALLA!

chest high pitch -- CLANK!!!!

bring on joba.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

This is the best f'ing flight I have ever taken. And now I get to watch the RS beat up on JTC

Amy said...

Thanks, Allan. I will have to wait and see which player captures my heart. Tek has had it for so long that it may take a while.

Anonymous said...

And the walk to Papi!

Amy said...

Again with the Lackey commercial??

allan said...

make joba wanna dwi tonight -- and then bring the bard/bot hammer down.

Amy said...

I hope Joba is feeling all put out, being switched back to the pen.

allan said...

so, joba:
allow 3 more runs
get the final out
fist pump

Dr. Jeff said...

I can't tell you how awesome it would be to see Joba get shellacked here.

Unknown said...

So who's pitching the 8th tonight? Bard?

Amy said...

dwi??

laura k said...

Just stopped in to say one word.

PASSEDBALLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

allan said...

i was hoping this game would be over by about 11. heh.

Amy said...

Driving while intoxicated?

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

What's this bellTRAY pronounciation? I thought it was BELLtray.

laura k said...

Amy, I love your avatar.

I'm not really here. See you all Tuesday night WHEN I WILL BE DONE WITH SCHOOL UNTIL SEPTEMBER.

Amy said...

Thanks, Laura! I look forward to you being here. School ends in April up there? Nice!

tim said...

I'm not dead! Steph comandeered the macbook shortly after the game started - our lack of power adapters (thanks winston and shitty macbook magnet) means we only have one, unreliable computer right now.

What a game, goddamn!

Also wanted to point out that force out back in the 6th when beltre was running to 2nd would've def. been a double play had slowell been in there. Stuff like that will make a difference this year!

allan said...

i hope meunier is still watching.

SoSock said...

BARD!!!
Have I mentioned lately.......He's a Tarheel!!!!
And don't say yes, because I know I haven't since last fall.
Pffffftt

Amy said...

I wonder if Neil Diamond is still awake at this hour.

allan said...

hate the drake.

Amy said...

Got Gardner out. That's good.

Patrick said...

Pedroia with the superfluous "defense"

tim said...

Steph looked at the TV, Jeter was on.

"look at him - fuckin womanizer!"

Amy said...

Do not walk Jeter.

Amy said...

Thank you.

allan said...

CI: herpes machine.

nick said...

Rooting for Tuesday!

Amy said...

I sure hope we get to see the old Papelbon tonight. A one run lead is not comforting with 2009 Papelbon.

Patrick said...

Nick Johnson is better at not swinging than even J.D. Drew. He masterfully leaves that bat on his shoulder.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

What Amy said.

nick said...

The Walking Johnsons.

allan said...

i thought johnson would be the next HUGE player. when he was only 20, he had an OBP of .520-something in AA. INSANE! ... then he got hurt every 4 hours.

allan said...

yo, bard. *pitch*

Amy said...

Bard looks blonder than I remember.

Amy said...

OK, score several insurance runs.

Patrick said...

More of that *shudder* defense.

Benjamin said...

There's your Sweet Caroline, Amy.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Cool! Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline live!

Amy said...

Is he singing??

tim said...

epic.

Benjamin said...

Yes, wearing a "Keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn" jacket.

nick said...

fire the sound guy.

Amy said...

The crowd sends better than Neil...

SoSock said...

I third what Amy said

nick said...

nonetheless...sweet...the folks there must be loving it.

allan said...

i am not unmuting espn.

ack it's bledding thru wrko

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

LOL, the crowd does sound better than Neil.

Anonymous said...

Yes I am still watching, I kept GDGD on.

tim said...

steph: "this songs never gonna be the same to me again, after watching this old man cumming to his own song"

we gotta get her on here.

allan said...

he looks a tad like mccarver.

wow - his jacket DOES say that on the back!!!

tim said...

"he looks like he popped a bunch of viagra"

Amy said...

WCSox, you could HEAR that on the plane? Wow, what a magical world this is!

laura k said...

Keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn!

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Amy, I'm watching satellite TV on Virgin America, while threading on Gogo Internet, WiFi in the Sky

nick said...

We need to get both of you on here, Tim.

Show us the Fire, On Fire!

Anonymous said...

Neil Diamond needs a body bag (to quote Bel Biv Devoe)

tim said...

annnd here goes the computer.

good night all!

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

I won't fly any other airline to or from Boston/NY/DC/Fort Lauderdale

Amy said...

Very cool, TV and internet on a plane. You do seem to fly a lot, so I can understand why you'd want a plane that offers those perks!

Anonymous said...

I hope you are on Jet Blue so you are able to watch it!

Anonymous said...

Didn't know Virgin America has Sat TV also.

allan said...

cano doesn't go to his right very well, does he?

:>)

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Meunier, it's Virgin America. Jet Blue is good for going up and down the east coast, but they don't fly to SF. They fly to Oakland, but that's like a different country to me.

Amy said...

Here's an interesting story.

nick said...

JtC with a pleasant little, "FUCK."

I'm glad Haagen-Dazs still makes Rum Raisin.

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

Satellite TV, and uncut movies - that means they don't show the "edited for the airplane" version.
