The problem with the out-of-staters is they all seem to migrate from Massachusetts and bring their terrible driving with them. Not to mention wanting to build everything up. They come in and become town selectmen and city counselmen. They want the conveniences of Massachusetts while being in Maine.
My mother was born in Hartford and moved to Maine in the early 60s. Father was in the Navy so they moved around up and down the eastern seaboard, but she moved back and lived here ever since. She doesn't feel like she's not a real Mainer.
My dad on the other hand was born in Presque Isle and grew up in the little town called Limestone in north-eastern Maine along the Canadian border. He moved down here to southern Maine for work, which was like moving to he Big City compared to Limestone.
I'm already thinking about another sweep. Wouldn't that be sweeeeet.

Being a New Yorker is much more about mindset than where you are born. I was born in the NY suburbs, and Allan grew up in Vermont, but we are/were both New Yorkers.

Ish - then we have a lot in common, probably were stationed at same bases (except nuke school for me was in Orlando) as I was also an EM (took the test for Chief just before getting out).
In many ways I still have that NY mindset (the sarcasm, the assumption that NY is the best city in the world for food, the arts, etc., the obsession with finding the best way to get some place, the pushiness), but in other ways I have become a New Englander. Rooting for the Sox was my first sign of conversion.

York is that big, huh? I only know it from passing it on the highway during various trips to Maine. We have been to Ogunquit, Kennebunkport,Portland, Rockport/Camden, and the Belgrade Lakes region. I would love to get to Bar Harbor, but haven't done that yet.

On average I go into York village or the beach once every week and a half. I go to Portsmouth nearly every day. Speaking of mindset... I think of myself more of a resident of the Seacoast region. All of southeastern NH and far southern Maine.
