G96: Red Sox 12, Orioles 1

Orioles - 001 000 000 - 1 3 0
Red Sox - 207 100 02x - 12 15 0
Wakefield (7-2-1-1-6, 98) was stupendous yet again and a grand slam from the Sultan of Sweat (Kevin Youkilis) in the third put the game out of reach.

Tampa's 8-4 loss in Cleveland means the Red Sox are only .5 GB in the East.

Only four Baltimore batters reached base: Kevin Millar's two-out single in the second, Ramon Hernandez's solo home run to begin the third, Adam Jones's two-out walk in the third, and Nick Markakis's double in the ninth. At one point, Red Sox pitchers retired 18 Orioles in a row.

Liz had nothing. After retiring the first two batters in the first, J.D. Drew and Manny Ramirez hit home runs on consecutive pitches. With one out in the third, Dustin Pedroia singled, Drew walked, Manny was HBP, Mike Lowell walked to force in a run, Yook went deep for a four-spot, Sean Casey walked, Lance Cormier relieved Liz, Jed Lowrie flew out to right, Kevin Cash singled, Jacoby Ellsbury singled and Pedroia doubled in two runs. 9-1.

Yook finished the night with six RBI. Drew reached base four times, and he and Manny both scored three times.

***

Radhames Liz (5.94, 71 ERA+) / Tim Wakefield (3.75, 115 ERA+)

Liz has pitched against the Red Sox only once, a start on August 31, 2007 (3-4-2-3-3, 72). No Boston batter has faced Liz more than twice.

Here is how the current Orioles have done against Wakefield. Cabin likes him (26 PA, .458/.500/.958).

Also: Yankees/Blue Jays at 1 PM and Rays/Spiders at 7 PM

I had to go eat dinner with my inlaws when Youk was still at bat. Nice to see the results.

He's a bit starstruck - Kevin Costner is in the booth.

Rob said...

Costner looks over at Remy and is thinking, He's still looking at me. Still. Again. Again. STOP LOOKING AT ME.

nixon33 said...

and the WAY remys eyes are EXAMINING costners face.

don & jerry are so star struck

Rob said...

Hahahaha. "You've had the privelage of working with Rene Rousseau out in Los Angeles..."

Remember that thing last year when she was in the booth?

nixon33 said...

ish, TOTALLY!

Costner looks over at Remy and is thinking, He's still looking at me. Still. Again. Again. STOP LOOKING AT ME.

he's got to be used to it.

they're talking about murcer on the radio. he always seemed like a nice guy to me - very low key and funny.

Costner on Pedroia: "Athletic Arrogance"

The other day a friend of mine was trying decide if he'd seen a celeb or not. It evidently LOOKED just like whoever it was (I am very bad at this game) but didn't have that "Don't say my name, don't say my name, don't say my name..." internal monologue running across the face!

allan said...

KC: "Let's start talkin' about chicks again."

DO/JR: "Heh heh heh."

nixon33 said...

remys dreamsome threesome, RUSSO, COSNTER, AND THE SECOND BASEMEN HIMSELF!

laura k said...

"You've had the privelage of working with Rene Rousseau out in Los Angeles..."

They talk about that Russo visit ALL the time. It comes up practically every week.

Rob said...

Remy shakes his hand then looks past him at the ceiling like, I wasn't really looking at you... I was looking, NEAR you.

Sarah Haendler said...

Remember that thing last year when she was in the booth?

And didn't she call in earlier this year?

laura k said...

And didn't she call in earlier this year?

Yup, and it started all over again.

nixon33 said...

they had michael kay on YES earlier, he broke down about murcer... apparently the guy is human.

allan said...

What is their obsession with Russo?

I mean, she doesn't have to wear a bag on her head, but ... ???

laura k said...

It evidently LOOKED just like whoever it was (I am very bad at this game)

But you're in NYC and you work in theatre. Don't you lose the star-struck stuff? I did.

Rob said...

HEIDI GOT HIT!!!

Rob said...

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

laura k said...

they had michael kay on YES earlier, he broke down about murcer... apparently the guy is human.

I'm glad to hear it. (That he's human, I mean.)

They worked together a very long time.

What is their obsession with Russo?

Famous Person I Know?

Other than that, I have no clue.

9casey said...

Costner called Russo a broad.......He also said Pedroia is his favorite player

Rob said...

Heh, I love how she put up the one hand like it would stop the ball. Heidi thought she had telekinesis.

laura k said...

Ish off in Heidiland...

Shes a big Sox fan a visits the booth a lot ,

Rob said...

7-0 Arachnids!

Rob said...

Ish off in Heidiland...

I was just concerned, is all.

If Joe were here, he'd have my back.

laura k said...

Shes a big Sox fan a visits the booth a lot ,

laura k said...

"concerned?"

that's what we're calling it now? :)

so do I......:)

laura k said...

Well, I'm leaving an hour early tonight and I'm not even gonna ask for a score prediction for when I get home!

laura k said...

so do I......:)

LOL

Don't disillusion us. We don't think of you that way.

allan said...

a-meeker!

laura k said...

Hey, earlier I said we could be .5 GB at the break - but I forgot we have a game tomorrow. (duh!) So we could be tied for 1st or even .5 GA. Cool.

allan said...

GDGD has Daniel Cabrera pitching!

Rob said...

Don has cut out Remy from the picture with Costner. They were on either side of him.

Rob said...

GDGD has Daniel Cabrera pitching! But it's not.

Rob said...

Fernando Cabrera

Rob said...

Gotta love GDGD

Sarah Haendler said...

But you're in NYC and you work in theatre. Don't you lose the star-struck stuff? I did.

That is largely the reason why I am so bad at the celeb spotting game. I simply don't give a shit.

allan said...

Don saying that Remy was "unnecessary" in the picture.

Now they go to the trivia with a aerial shot of Boston.

Remy: "Why don't you cut out half of the city?"

Amy said...

So...looks like Wake will finally get a win for his great efforts over the last month or more...

laura k said...

That is largely the reason why I am so bad at the celeb spotting game. I simply don't give a shit.

Same here. We are very rare!

I totally don't get the whole celebrity fixation.

Sarah Haendler said...

And a well deserved one! Hey Amy - how've you been?

Rob said...

That's a good curve by the OTHER Cabrera.

Rob said...

Youk bangs his helmet into the dirt when he fails to leg out a grounder when it's... 10-1.

Amy said...

Hi Sarah! Things are great, though I have missed many games and threads lately since the extended family has been around. Where have you been??

laura k said...

I'm outta here! Might see you later. GO SOX! (GO SPIDERS!)

Sarah Haendler said...

Same here. We are very rare

Unfortunately.

Sarah Haendler said...

Amy, I've been around, just the timing of games and work (and a brief period where my crappy lappy was crappier than is the norm) has been working against me in the game threading department. Nothing fun like extended family! I think we're probably not even going to make it to my family's summer vacation just because money has been so tight. Boo. :(

Otherwise well though, glad you're doing well.

Amy said...

I have also missed many chunks of games due to scheduling, but for me it's mostly family stuff, not work.

Sorry about your vacation limitations....

Rob said...

WOW. That was a terrible call.

nixon33 said...

THAT REMY FOOTAGE WAS AMAZING!

allan said...

yeah i was almost putting a BB in the book. then .. whaaaa?

nice clip of remy losing his cool, though

allan said...

sounds like moss is in left?

gdgd still has manny. good ol' mlb!

Sarah Haendler said...

Thanks Amy - it's a bummer, but it could be so much worse, it's really hard to feel sorry for myself about it. My dad was pretty let down, that was the worst part!

allan said...

shatner was tossed, according to gdgd

Rob said...

That footage of Remy definitely was awesome.

Sarah Haendler said...

ah, GDGD - never an accurate moment there...

allan said...

moss in left
cora at short
lowrie to third

Rob said...

William Shatner was thrown out of the game between innings for arguing that called third strike...

Amy said...

I lost my internet connection there for a few. So annoying. The router came unplugged....

So what's with Wakefield? He's been unbelievable this season.

allan said...

Still 7-0 in Cleveland, bot 6th

Amy said...

I can't believe tomorrow's game is the last one before the ASB. And a day game so I won't be around. More family coming to visit.

allan said...

And then there is the 3-day break -- and the Sox are off on Thursday!

I get no games at home next week.

Rob said...

Hansen in. Very good outing tonight for Wake.

allan said...

hansen in

allan said...

Wake: 7-2-1-1-6, 98

(I have 99 pitches)

Sarah Haendler said...

Yeah, typically, I'm free almost every night this week. Therefore, it must be the ASB.

allan said...

I'm not watching the ASG this year, so I guess it's movie and sitting outside week.

Amy said...

Not watching the ASB because of lack of interest? Or a conflict?

Amy said...

I mean ASG

Sarah Haendler said...

I can catch up on some netflix I suppose - I really should put that on hiatus during baseball season...

allan said...

Wow - tons of visitors today!

Almost 100 of them are from here.

allan said...

Lack of interest, feels more like habit at this point.

Plus I want to avoid the Fox fawning over YS.

Amy said...

I had to read that a few times to figure out that he was not calling you a moron, but that poster Jack Sears.

People need to use punctuation...

Amy said...

I usually catch the end of the ASG when none of the starters are even in the game. Boring....

allan said...

I am the bringer of truth!

nixon33 said...

im surprised on fire is still in the game.

Sarah Haendler said...

Yeah, I read it that way at first too, Amy. The context cleared it up, but seriously?

Benjamin said...

GDGD usually has the video clips of scoring plays and impressive defense pretty quickly, but it doesn't have anything after the top of the third.

Moss!

Benjamin said...

Exclamation point!

!

allan said...

This past Wednesday was also a high traffic day. No idea why.

Amy said...

In games like this, I find myself wishing the Sox could just take some of these hits and runs and use them in those one-run losses.

allan said...

Pretty sure it's O. Yeller time.

allan said...

moss moves to lf
coco in cf
lyndon moves to rf

Amy said...

Timlin in, and no one is worrying. Yawn.

allan said...

I am maybe 7% worried.

allan said...

FKR: 000 000 0
CLE: 043 000

Amy said...

7 %? Even I, the great worrier, am not worried.

Amy said...

So we are .5 back? It sure would be sweet to go into the ASB in first.

laura k said...

I am 0% worried.

Just got home. MASN on TV here.

Rob said...

Timlin Proof!

nixon33 said...

timlin is over.

allan said...

UH OH!

Amy said...

Hi, Laura! Glad to catch you before the final out.

Rob said...

DIRTY WATERRRRRRR

And a fantastic play by Pedroia!

Amy said...

Good thing we have FY out there!

Amy said...

I am happy for Wakefield. And for the rest of us.

laura k said...

Catching up on the thread (more important than the game right now)

I can't believe tomorrow's game is the last one before the ASB. And a day game so I won't be around.

I was complaining about the same thing. I am scheduled for training at work while the game is on - then the AS break - then west coast games! BOOOO.

nixon33 said...

.5

nixon33 said...

did lowrie get a hit tonight?

Amy said...

No baseball and no threads for over a week? And I am finally almost family free...except for Harvey, who will still want to eat dinner!

laura k said...

It did look like that guy (at the link) was calling Allan a moron! The noive!

laura k said...

.5 - yeah!!

Amy said...

Yes, we need to teach that guy how to use commas. Especially if he is going to link to Allan favorably!

Amy said...

I guess the game was such a runaway that most of the thread people left before I even got here.

Amy said...

Nix, I don't think Lowrie got any hits.

allan said...

jed was 0-for-4

tim said...

finally done eating. good game....

re: comment about newfoundland made like 2 hours ago, that's sweet, its definitely on my list of places to travel. i did glance at the travel blog, but haven't really had time to read them. i wanna sit down one day and catch up on all of em.

no spinach tonight, but looks like it was not needed.

in asshole advertising news: just missed the first 15 seconds of the second half of the TFC game due to them showing a commerical. hooray for rogers sportsnet!

1. I was rooting for the Rays to lose.

2. Nope.

Clev 7-4

Hmmmm

Amy said...

OK, good night, all. Here's to grabbing the lead in the ALEast tomorrow.

allan said...

But the Rays are down to 3 outs.

Actually, he looks a little like a young me.

strong resemblance

laura k said...

Anyone who was rooting for the MFYs over the Rays this past week needs to reconsider.

Not so. I root for my team to get (or stay) in 1st place. If that means the Yankees have to win a game or two, so be it.

allan said...

Will I look like Tito in 4.5 years?

Sure , just shave your head and chew 5 pieces od Dubble Bubble wrapped around a chew of Lancaster and you got it, and for good measure wear all your Red Sox shirts at once...

That doesn't happen very often.
On a sadder note - My Big League team finally hit the wall last night, lost 7 - 1.
We're still 6 - 1 though, not bad.
