I got the Blogger Block.

That was fun!

Don and Jerry were out of control. "Do you bring your own pillow? You do, don't you!"

Jere said...

whereas Danbury area, where I'm from, is still more than half Yankee, from the reports I get...

Amy said...

Oh, well. Ish, I went to school on the Ct coast. Definitely Red Sox country, though lots of NYers at my school (as I was when I was there). But that was eastern CT, not western.

andy said...

Well played people, well played.

Jere said...

remember, New Haven finally got NESN about 5 yrs ago

SoSock said...

Ok
that was an adventure.

allan said...

ish has the magic touch.

Sarah Haendler said...

I hate that extra innings cuts me off the very second the game is over.

laura k said...

Ish, how do you do it? :)

Amy said...

New Haven converting to REd Sox nation! Interesting.

I bet Don and Jerry cuddle on flights

Rob said...

How is Torrington part of the NYC metro area? I mean, I know, for census purposes, but still. That's like saying I live in the Boston metro area.

Jere said...

yeah anywhere in bizzarro, meaning eastern, COnnecticut is solid SOx, though there was (still is?) a Yankee station in New London--channel 26.

Amy said...

Ish, you are magical!

SoSock said...

Should we all like, smoke a cigarette or something now?

Jere said...

ish--the Litchfield in NY metro thing IS indeed ridiculous. I just found that out that the census counts it as NY. Real dumb.

Amy said...

Hey, New London is crazy. I lived there for 4 years. Definitely Red Sox people. Except the NYers who go to school there.

Rob said...

Ish, how do you do it? :)

I was totally guessing. It comes down to how close you land to 201... If you're 200, you've gotta be quick about it. 199, you can't just burst in there going "201!!!"

I was 199, but we were still talkative so I had to be quick and was wondering if I hit it. Thus, the two ??'s.

Amy said...

Lots of NYers with second homes in Litchfield COuntry, but definitely NOT NY Metro in feel there.

Rob said...

Apparently there are enough MFY fans around here to warrant an MFY affiliate about 25 miles away, in Rochester, NH.

Jere said...

21 million people in the "NY metro", including:

Torrington, CT Micropolitan Statistical Area (190,071)

* Litchfield County (190,071)

Jere said...

ANd of course there's that Yankee radio station in Worcester, MA

Well, that win went down very well with the homemade lemon bars that a friend brought over.
IF there is an upside to having a wife in the hospital for a while, it's an overabundance of pretty darn good food that shows up night after night.

laura k said...

Just scrolled through this crazy game thread. We lack for good off-topic blather when I'm not around!

Rob said...

There used to be a commercial on last year during the MFY games where the guy said "I like to listen to the games on this station and root for whoever's playing the Yankees."

Jere said...

But upstate NY has plenty of Sox fans as we know

Amy said...

OK, guess we could not go to 301. But I am tired so.... until next time.

I will likely be on the road home tomorrow, so you may have to get to 201 without me.

laura k said...

That's great your friends do that.

Rob said...

Of course, it's easy at night to pick up the MFY's flagship station at WCBS. Hell, I was listening to a Phillies game tonight on the AM dial.

Jere said...

there is no 301. Well there is, but...

Amy said...

Yes, Laura, it's just baseball or talk about female sportscasters when you aren't here. :(

Jere said...

ish, I've always loved pulling in all kinds of cities on the ol' AM radio. Good stuff. I can't believe KDKA stopped carrying Pirates games....

Sarah Haendler said...

How is your wife doing Sosock? Baked goods aside...

Rob said...

Speaking of female sportscasters... I read that just as Kathryn Tappen appeared on my TV screen.

And she's gone.

Amy said...

Sorry, Ish, didn't mean to get you guys started again!

Amy said...

Well, time for sleep. Have a good night, everyone.

Rob said...

Oh yeah. Definitely. A couple of weeks ago I was listening to a Mets/Nationals game and would listen to WFAN, and then when the reception went away momentarily, I'd switch it to the Nationals' station. 1500

Jere said...

Thing I wrote about all the stations I used to pick up. For your reading enjoyment.

SoSock said...

I can almost always find the Yankee game on at night, even down here. Occasionally Philly or Cleveland too.
Last year a local AM station broadcast all the MFY games. I would listen some on my way home just to get updates. Those 2 would make me nauseous though.
This year they're doing a limited schedule.

Rob said...

Oh, very cool. I spent hours one night trying to see how many different stations I could pick up. That was when we had a huge antenna hooked up onto our roof. Now we have a metal roof. No antenna. :(

Sarah Haendler said...

I've gotten spoiled since I got XM radio - I never have to scan the dial for baseball. I miss it though, in an odd way. There's something fun about seeing what you can find.

Jere said...

Satellite radio should come with a "switch to old school mode" button that lets you sift through screeching static.

allan said...

We've done that on long drives on vacation, tuned in trying to find a game. L loves it!

My TV crapped out in the middle of this, but putting the pieces together, Tito just said Brandon Moss is having his appendix taken out right now.

Sarah
Just saw your question.
Thanks for asking.
She's home now, after 12 days in with IV antibiotics for a staff infection - MRSA.
All over that, but they had to remove her portacath since that's where the infection started. So she's off chemo for a while, until they feel comfortable putting another in.
Not necessarily a bad thing - she's been considering taking a break just to feel better for a while and hope for the best. Now the decision's made and she didn't have to make it.

Rob said...

We used to drive down I-95 from Portland during Sox games - there's an FM station in Portland but craps out about 20 miles south, and WEEI didn't come in very well, either. Neither did the local AM station.

The best station that came in, driving down through southern Maine, was 1080 WTIC.

Rob said...

2. Pittsburgh Pirates. KDKA. Can't remember the number. I'll never forget getting it in for the first time, and thinking it was some west coast station. But no, there is a station in an east coast that starts with a "K."

I had that same problem too. My first thought was man! This AM radio is REALLY good! This must be from Minneapolis or someplace! Pittsburgh? Oh. Well, that's cool too.

Rob said...

Phillies are on 1210 these days...

I was able to tune into a Cubs game on WGN, which was crazy. Here I am, about 10 miles from the coast, and it's 1:06 am here, and I hear, "WGN news time 12:06."

Re:radio.
I used to drive poor Cathy crazy when we were traveling with our soap business. I would find some ball game or a really good college or NPR station playing some serious music and would just stay on it even when it got staticky (isthataword?. It would drift in and out and I'd be almost leaning over the dash saying, what happened?
or not at this spot! it's the best part!

Jere said...

"our soap business"

Sosock, I know you are a reader of my blog--have you noticed me talking about my girlfriend's soap company? (Or did you comment and I forgot about it?) Either way, what about this "soap business"? (Unless you had some sort of soap opera company....)

SoSock said...

We had a nice little business going for about 8 years - making all-natural olive oil soaps. Did a lot of the big art and craft shows, mostly up in your neck of the woods. People down here all wanted fluffy-pretty-fake smelly, which just wasn't us. We were no color - all essential oils. We did much better in the DC - Boston corridor. Did the New England Flower show in Boston several years. That's when I got to go in Fenway. Unfortunately the show always ended the week before opening day. I have yet to see a game there :(

SoSock said...

Jere
we'll have to chat about this at your space some time. As ANY of my friends will tell you, I love to talk about our soaps and stuff. We made a lot of other products, one in particular actually outsold the soaps.
I really miss the business. It truly felt like we were doing something good then. But Cathy's health would not let us keep going as we were, and we weren't making enough to pay labor costs to make the products while I was out doing shows, even IF she was up to overseeing, so we sold it. Name, recipes, website, all of it. It paid for a long week in Disneyland for us and all 11 kids, spouses, and grandkids. Something we had never been able to do before.
