G10: Red Sox 12, Tigers 6

Tigers - 000 200 130 - 6 10 0
Red Sox - 000 400 44x - 12 13 1
Very nice to see the Red Sox respond every time the Tigers scored some runs.

In addition to 13 hits, the Red Sox drew nine walks. Seven of those BBs came around to score.

Drew was 3-for-3 with a BBI and a sac fly; he scored twice and drove in two runs. Pedroia singled twice, walked, and scored twice. Ortiz walked twice and scored twice. Crisp singled, doubled and walked. Yook doubled in two runs, walked and scored twice. Manny had a two-run double and scored twice.

Wakefield battled through five innings (5-3-2-5-5; pitch countby innings: 22-22-27 23-14 = 108). Sexy Lips began the eighth with an 8-3 lead, but he allowed a walk, single, walk, single, single, before getting a 6U-3 double play on a nice play from Lugo. At that point, Boston led 8-6 and Ordonez was the tying run at the plate. Papelbon came in and got the third out. The Sox tacked on another four-spot in their half of the eighth and Bot mopped up.

***

Nate Robertson (9.00, 46 ERA+) / Tim Wakefield (4.50, 95 ERA+)

Lineups inside: Yook at 3B, Casey at 1B, Crisp in CF, and Cash at C.

" worried about papi's bat = worried the sun won't come up tomorrow morning"

However, some people think Papi taking a quick plane trip on Monday is responsible for his few games of non-awesomeness out of like five years, and that he's basically done. Did you see the Buckley article? I can't even believe they printed it.

andy said...

Same here. I am just frustrated this season so far. I want more. How can we get more then last year? Not sure but I want it. I want to sweep the yankees for once. I want to win the season series at least. I want to destroy teams. I know it's going to happen the way things are shaping up. Real consistent with a steady taper up. Not real hot like some teams are now that will not sustain it.

Jere said...

amy, got it! delete!

allan said...

i did see it. and was surprised at it.

spam wont get that email address, pretty sure.

Jere said...

Royals outfielders pulling a Three Stooges, leading to 2 on, 0 out for yanks

laura k said...

I cannot understand being frustrated with a baseball season ON APRIL 10.

Jere said...

KC gets a DP, run scores on play, 2-1. (If this was Yankee Stadium, that would call for the "DING DONG DING DONGGG...DONG DING DONG DINNNGGGG" sound effect)

Wow, I didn't mean to put "dong" in this comment originally...

andy said...

I try not to be. I can't believe I am either, I am so excited about a lot of good stuff this year. I want to see how long Dice's mullet gets. Will LBJ become all that we expected, so far yes but let him play. Pedroia is proving he is not a flash in the pan.
it takes me a few weeks to settle into the baseball pace. right now all my pent up energy from the off-season is spilling out.

Amy said...

Ha, I can't even find my own post. Laura, did you delete it?

Too bad we couldn't score there. A few insurance runs are always nice.

So Jere, you won't be there tomorrow? I just reread your post---you will be there Sat and Sun?

At least we will have a JOS at every Yankee game this weekend. Must be good for the karma.

Patrick said...

I'm liking Cash so far. He will be abysmal at times, but he is forgiven.

Jere said...

Hey L and A. I'm gonna say a line that should bring back Tri-State memories. Ready?

Jere said...

AMy--I WILL be there Friday. And Sunday.

Jere said...

Ordongyez.

allan said...

jeemer up -- 8th?

then bot in the 9th.

Jere said...

Okay, I assume you're ready. I hadn't thought of this in so long:

"Hey Dave Winfield, this Bud's for you!"

s1c said...

The mayor makes the scoop!!!!

Jere said...

Casey saves an E for Youk.

Tarp goes on field in KC. 2-1 them, bottom 4th.

Patrick said...

Oh no. It's a close one. I like our chances being ahead after 7.2.

allan said...

tito goes to jeemer for the 4-out appearance. he seems to be in playoff assassin mode!

andy said...

Say who? Okabot. I think in my current life I want everything right now.

Okaji says the flag

Amy said...

Jere, I read tomorrow as Saturday. These long days at school are killing me. Can't type, can't read.

Good thing I don't have to play baseball, just watch it.

laura k said...

Amy, I deleted it as soon as I saw Jere's "got it". You guys could have gotten each other's email address through me... but by the time I thought of offering, it was too late.

andy said...

Tito always says they gotta win every series. He is coaching to that now.

Jere said...

Nice job Oki!

andy said...

Drew jersey on its way to my house now.

Amy said...

Jere, send me an email and I will give you my cell.

Patrick said...

Sounds good, Andy. .667 would get us in.

Patrick said...

Drew jersey on its way to my house now.

My thoughts exactly.

andy said...

remember the 4 game series with 3 wins Patrick .699?

Amy said...

I'm really wanting those insurance runs. Cmon Lugo! Leadoff guy tonight. Set the table.

Oh well. Why is he leading off?

Amy said...

Papi---time to break the bad spell. Be hawk-like--swoop in and kill that ball.

s1c said...

Well we can expect ish to stop in soon, Bruins lose.

Amy said...

OK, two on. Manny wants to hit this one out. I can feel it.

allan said...

MBM is cranking up the Donginator.

laura k said...

I'll be glad when the Habs win this series, so NESN can be baseball-only.

(Sorry, Ish.)

Amy said...

Laura, did you just post a hockey related post? Amazing. :)

laura k said...

My second hockey-related post! Both cheering for the non-Boston team, I'm afraid.

I like hockey. It's probably my second favourite sport. But it's still miles and miles (and miles) away from how I feel about baseball.

Rob said...

Eh. Well, no matter what the outcome of the series, the baseball will be NESN only after it. First round is locally broadcast, then the networks take off from there.

andy said...

Oh i wish drew was in the 5 spot

Jere said...

Whatever makes hockey go away, I'm rooting for that. Then again, aren't the Canadiens the Yankees of hockey? Or is that another team. I'll root for the Bs against the Yankees of hockey, but if they win, I'm rooting against them after that. Unless they play another Yankees of hockey. What I'm trying to say is, I really don't care about hockey.

laura k said...

Yes, but if the Bruins are in the playoffs on any channel, Don & Jerry will be talking about it. As well as folks here talking about it.

Jere said...

I was gonna say, Why the hell are these games non national anyway? Thanks, ish.

andy said...

that sucks for hockey. its a major sport, should be national from round 1

laura k said...

No, the Canadiens are not the Yankees of hockey.

Jere said...

great call, Don.

laura k said...

But hockey playoffs last a long time.

Amy said...

OK, I almost called it! But good enough for me. GO MANNY!

laura k said...

BEING!!!!

Jere said...

YEahhhhhh1 I heart Mannyyyyyy!

allan said...

No, the Canadiens are not the Yankees of hockey.

They were. Just like the Celtics were.

...

BEING!!

Patrick said...

Hell freaking yeah!

andy said...

Whoa! Frustration fading

Rob said...

I really don't care about hockey.

Well, notice I haven't been talking about the game itself. I know how you guys feel about it.

laura k said...

Were, yes. So were the Islanders once. Both in the past.

Jere said...

As our good luck black cat walks in the room, Manny half-dongs.

Amy said...

Not a hockey fan. Too much fighting, not enough scoring. Too much back and forth and back and forth.

But whatever. To each his/her own. Whatever makes you happy.

laura k said...

Aw Ish, now I feel guilty. Talk about whatever you want.

We just won't talk back.

Rob said...

I've thought about it all season, and I'm not sure who the Yankees of hockey are. It's not such an important question these days because they have a salary cap. A team can be terrible one year and a powerhouse the next.

Imagine if baseball had a salary cap.

Amy said...

LBJ in!

Jere said...

"No, the Canadiens are not the Yankees of hockey.

They were. Just like the Celtics were."

Yeah. I knew I'd heard that somewhere. I don't care about any other Boston teams so it doesn't bother me....

Jere said...

Terrible heckler! Get some creativity, man! You all hearing this?

laura k said...

Low scoring is good, to me. Low scoring baseball games are good.

That's one reason I dislike basketball, too much scoring. (Although I do like women's basketball.)

allan said...

Only Montreal was considered the "Yankees" of hockey. I remember this as a kid. They won a fuckload of titles, so ... "Yankees". Nothing more than that.

s1c said...

ON FIRE!!! draws the walk because, well he's ON FIRE!!!

andy said...

Awesome. Walking drew

Jere said...

L: just to clarify. "the Yankees of ___" to me just means a team with an entire history of racking up way more titles than any other team in that sport. The Yanks could be good or bad at any given time so I don't mean it in terms of what one team's doing currently compared to what the Yanks are doing currently.

s1c said...

RS - Refresh my memory, if the Sox score more one run would Jeemer get a save?

laura k said...

jere, i figured that.

Rob said...

Aw Ish, now I feel guilty. Talk about whatever you want.

Heh. No worries. It goes the same way with football for me. Although last year I haven't really minded football, I never liked it when people (announcers, etc) talked about football during baseball games in the fall.

I'll tell ya, though. It did feel weird watching the hockey tonight rather than the Red Sox.

laura k said...

Also Jere I figured you meant the team everyone hated.

Jere said...

Right, so the Isles had like 5 years of being the Yankees of hockey in an immediate sense, provided you're referring to a Yankee squad that did good over a specific five-year period, but they could never, historically speaking, be TYO hockey. Unless they reel off like 30 titles real quick.

allan said...

Pretty sure only the final pitcher can get a save, so if Jeemer doesn't finish the game, no.

Jere said...

(That just happens to be one of like the four things I know about hockey, that the Isles won a bunch in row around 1980.)

Amy said...

Nice! Liking this Casey guy.

Guess I got my insurance runs!

allan said...

Lowell who?

s1c said...

The MAYOR!!!!!!

Yeah baby, now we're starting to feel it!!!!

laura k said...

I'm liking this Mayor guy!

allan said...

Bot down - Lips up

andy said...

lowell deserves a break

s1c said...

Sexy up in the pen

Rob said...

Not sure those two runs would have scored had it been Hinske at the plate. Great pick-up. You know you have a good team when bench players contribute like Casey has.

And speaking of bench players - any word on Cora's injury?

Patrick said...

Bet the Tigers wish they had a Jeemer of their own.

laura k said...

OK Jere, I see what you mean re Isles and Habs.

I wish I could follow two sports at once, I'd be into hockey. But no matter how I try (or used to try), it's only baseball for me.

Rob said...

Bet the Tigers wish they had a Jeemer of their own.

That brings along an important lesson to all the kids out there learning baseball. If your house is under siege by wildfire... make sure other people are getting your things out for you. You might hurt your 100mph arm or something.

s1c said...

Ish, have you seen Hinske's numbers in Tampa. .333 couple of doubles and couple of HR's already this year.

Patrick said...

Nothing seems as epic to me as baseball. Plus, I listen to it on the radio, and really, baseball translates better for radio than other sports.

laura k said...

It's only early April. Hinske will turn into Hinske again. He's not going to become David Ortiz.

laura k said...

Baseball on the radio is the greatest. It's one of my greatest pleasures in life, one which I hardly have any more.

I'm listening on weekends (at work) now on MLB audio. It's great.

Patrick said...

Ish I was thinking about the same situation, and how ironic it is that a professional athlete might want to pull the pussy card, and avoid any non-sports labor all together. It's a really weird thing.

laura k said...

pull the pussy card

We could take shots at the various things that could mean.

Amy said...

Why I only love baseball:

No time limits.

No back and forth and back and forth like most sports.

The one on one focus of the pitcher/batter battle.

Those things make it different from all the other major professional sports.

And besides, it's the first sport I ever learned. And always loved.

Patrick said...

No one can play that wall like Manny.

Rob said...

I wish I could follow two sports at once, I'd be into hockey. But no matter how I try (or used to try), it's only baseball for me.

I used to pretty much be baseball-only, but the off-season is such a long, long time, and so I became open to watching other sports. Hockey first, then a bit of football (Patriots only, pretty much), and the Celtics. Not a big fan of basketball much, but I can sit and watch the majority of a Celtics game.

So it's this time of year that's really annoying. Baseball, my #1, has started, but hockey and basketball haven't ended yet.

Patrick said...

I was wondering where you would go with that L-Girl, but I decided not to censor myself.

Amy said...

I also love baseball on the radio. I used to listen to Mets games late at night in high school on my little transistor. Now I love it on long car trips.

allan said...

that's called a "man head lock" jerry.

laura k said...

Baseball is just the greatest sport ever.

allan said...

who wants to lug heavy shit around?

not me.

laura k said...

I'm not the language police. No need to censor yourself.

I just have a problem with people using pussy to mean anything negative.

Cause it's not, you know. :)

Rob said...

Ish, have you seen Hinske's numbers in Tampa. .333 couple of doubles and couple of HR's already this year.

Is he playing every day? And didn't he play everyday in Toronto? He seemed like a guy who needed a rhythm and needed to know he'd be in there each day.

Patrick said...

Pudge probably thinking "I wouldn't have done that if I were catching, muahahah"

Jere said...

"pull the pussy card

We could take shots at the various things that could mean."

draw a queen?

laura k said...

When LBJ didn't get that ball and Ococ picked him up, I was thinking, Coco's gotta like that...

Amy said...

ARrggh. Don't make us need those insurance runs.

Patrick said...

What's worse than Hinske playing good is David Murphy is ripping it up in Texas.

Boy did Gagne put a stain on the history of the sox.

Amy said...

Shit. Lips is not hot tonight. Time for someone else?

s1c said...

Ish - I think he is playing everyday.

Probably should have had jeemer pitch to one or two batters to make sure Sexy was warmed up.

Frack.

allan said...

go home, lips. have a drink and go to bed.

... can we bring jeemer back in?

laura k said...

Re Hinske, check in June or July or August. Doesn't every baseball fan know you can't judge a player on APRIL 10?

Rob said...

Yeah, baseball on radio is fantastic. That's why I mute the TV and turn the radio on. I remember this one trip I took last summer with my parents out to Rutland, VT and we listened to a Mets/Rockies game all the way from Rutland, VT to Portsmouth, NH on WFAN. Beautiful evening - it was actually the 4th of July, so we drove past fireworks, as well.

Jere said...

Yeah, but the left fielder goes over knowing he's gotta try for the ball while the CF will be there if he misses. But still, you're probably right!

laura k said...

It can't be easy to play alongside your replacement.

allan said...

bot back up.

sigh.

laura k said...

Lips is not sexy tonight.

allan said...

homely lips.

Jere said...

Because the queens are the only cards in the deck with vaginas. I mean, as far as we know. Actually, we don't really know the actual birth-sex of any of the 14 of 'em. (including the two jokers here).

But anyway, seriously, Tavarez, stop effing around.

andy said...

Holy crap i checked out and now look.

laura k said...

LUGO!! Great play, thank you Slugo!

s1c said...

Those were big outs, now one more sexy.

Jere said...

Lugo did a really nice job there. Had to get that done.

andy said...

lugo just justified his existence

allan said...

LUGO! fuck yeah

Rob said...

But you'll always have players that leave the team and do well, and some who don't do well. Good to hear, about Murphy, though. I'm sure Gabbard's not lighting it up down there, though.

Also tough seeing Bronson Arroyo struggling in Cincinnati.

laura k said...

Bot time!

andy said...

oh good a 1 out save

s1c said...

I love the bots routine.

Open gate, keep head down, stroll to edge of dirt, bump fist, break into a trot / run, reach infield grass and stroll to the mound.

Now make this a routine outing bot!

laura k said...

Ish, very true, often forgotten. You can't predict the future and keep every player forever waiting for them to turn around, and regardless of what other holes you need to fill.

Jere said...

so terrible by Tavarez. We got the Yanks coming in tomorrow, up 8-3 in the eighth, and we have to use Pap....

Patrick said...

I read a great book called 'Positively Fifth Street' (another Dylan reference) about Texas Hold 'Em.

The names people give some of the hands they get were pretty witty. Two queens was referred to as "four tits".

Rob said...

Mags has such a pretty swing, doesn't he? Especially when he swings and pops one out to ocoC.

s1c said...

two pitches and we can now go WHEWWWWWW

laura k said...

Speculating on the genitalia of playing cards. Not something you see on your average sports blog.

Rob said...

That DP looms large, though. Papelbon only needed a few pitches this inning.

laura k said...

I really like Magglio Ordonez. I have wanted him on my team for a long time.

Rob said...

Speculating on the genitalia of playing cards. Not something you see on your average sports blog.

Joy of Sox. Something for everyone.

Patrick said...

Hoping for some more insurance...

laura k said...

I know that book, Positively Fifth Street. I haven't read it, but it's on my list, I heard it was very good.

andy said...

On Fire > Mags

Patrick said...

YESSS!!! HAHAHA. Bizardo!

s1c said...

Ish - Gabbard 1-0 7.0 ip and 0 runs.

Actually I think Kason will be a solid 4 or 5 starter. Of course with the Rangers that means he is the ace of the staff.

andy said...

Requires Fire Department Assistance> Madge

Patrick said...

L-girl, it's a good read because Texas hold 'em's suspense translates well into writing. I enjoyed it.

Amy said...

Nice! FY!

andy said...

The midget plays the lines like something clever that plays with lines well.

laura k said...

OK OK, I love Drew, he's en fuego and all that. I just like Mags too, separate from DJ Werd.

Amy said...

Can Papi break out of the slump now?

Rob said...

If Gabbard can improve his control and keep it consistent, he could be another Tom Glavine. He's not going to be overpowering, but he can be dominating if he can have crisp, consistent command.

Jere said...

Come on, dong to the pen caught by Timlin in a towel

Jere said...

If TImlin was there....

allan said...

If TImlin was there....

... I'd be posting a jpg of toast?

s1c said...

Go back to '04 and we almost had Mags, remember he was part of the Manny to tx, trade.

laura k said...

There's a book called Double Down about two brothers who lost all their family money gambling. Lotta money, house and all. One is a writer, we read an excerpt in the NYer which was amazing. That's the gambling book I want to read.

Rob said...

Jim Leyland has humongous ears.

Rob said...

Though, I feel like they're not as big as they could be. There's someone I saw on TV recently who had bigger ears.

laura k said...

Come on LBJ, make me proud...

andy said...

Tizzle walks and Sizzle hits 6th.

Jere said...

I say base hit left field. WHo's with me?

Rob said...

Bazardo - shades of Bobby Jones. Remember Bobby Jones?

andy said...

I think I hear bullpen spoon drumming

s1c said...

keep the line moving boys.

Jere said...

I'll take an JacoBB

andy said...

Bizardo is not with you jere

allan said...

good eye from the handsome rookie.

Jere said...

Bazardo Superman on the mound

tim said...

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Haven't read the thread yet, just got in but here we go Sox! Runs pls, now.

Patrick said...

I've seen too many pop outs from Youk with loaded bases. I'm with Jere on this one.

tim said...

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

s1c said...

Well that helps!!

Youk!!!!!!

andy said...

Holy shit

laura k said...

yoooooooooooook

Jere said...

L, I got some nice shots of your boy, will be posting shortly after this game. (Just have to write the all-important captions.)

Youk!

Jere said...

Meaning, at the game last night

Amy said...

YOUKKKKK

tim said...

11, sweet.

Jere said...

Testicles fly.

s1c said...

SF from On Fire, will take it!!!!

laura k said...

Yeah! 11 runs, love it.

Jere, thanks, I need those. Allan never got me the SI with all those lovely pics.

allan said...

Drew hitting .440!

Nice game -- shitload of BB and 11 runs, with the Chokers coming in tomorrow.

andy said...

I will not accept the nomination for president of the United States.

Jere said...

And the bullpen band is back in action.

Patrick said...

Drew 3-3 IBB, sac fly, 2 rbi.

andy said...

Momentum is a dandy thing

allan said...

wouldn't scrotum be a better word for "sac fly"?

Amy said...

Talk about insurance runs!

s1c said...

Ah good, the after bruins show is over so I have NESN back!!!

andy said...

I think it must be sooo intimidating to hear that bullpen pounding in your background. they do it best in other ballparks. Erases the home field comfort level. They need to record that shit i will buy it for a lot of money

Jere said...

scrotum much better

Jere said...

Sox quite comfy in Bazardo World

andy said...

Scrotum window = sac fly

Jere said...

We've already got a George.

Amy said...

An even dozen!! OCOC!

Remy asks: Do we bring back Pap?

Interesting question.

tim said...

Hooray ococ

laura k said...

genital talk all around tonight

andy said...

is anyone warming up? I dont think so. Bazardo is Detroit white flag

Jere said...

s1c: Thanks for the heads-up. I'm back to non-muffled NESN!

Jere said...

Casey, here's a chance to practice using the Wall.

Rob said...

I was watching the Red Sox on channel 98 - on basic cable. Surprisingly, the picture is better than on regular NESN.

andy said...

scrotums always get the cream

laura k said...

s1c, i like mags but not that much. i was not hoping for that trade to go through.
