WS 4: Red Sox 4, Rockies 3

The Red Sox lineup remains the same:
Red Sox Rockies
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF Kazuo Matsui, 2B
Dustin Pedroia, 2B Troy Tulowitzki, SS
David Ortiz, 1B Matt Holiday, LF
Manny Ramirez, LF Todd Helton, 1B
Mike Lowell, 3B Garrett Atkins, 3B
J.D. Drew, RF Ryan Spilborghs, CF
Jason Varitek, C Brad Hawpe, RF
Julio Lugo, SS Yorvit Torrealba, C
Jon Lester, P Aaron Cook, P
***

Jon Lester / Aaron Cook

If you are worried about Lester starting -- though at this point, why are you worried about anything -- consider that Colorado is pinning its post-season hopes on a guy who has not pitched in a game since August 10.

I think they're being very fair about the Sox and the history, what I'm catching of it anyway. I'm not hanging on every word, but they don't sound all that annoying to me.

There's s1c's shuttlecock commercial.

Shuttlecock lodged in the leg, awesome.

If we keep posting shuttlecock, I'm sure we'll move up in google when people search for that word!

Tim, no idea what places yet, we'll improvise as we go along. Last year we went by ourselves and stayed in Niagara On The Lake. Had no idea how super touristy it was, yuck. But we did some historic stuff the next day (we love that stuff), it was fun.

This year we're going with friends, ppl we met thru my blog. They like to drink too so it should be fun.

Hey, try not to plan your wine day on the same day as our party!

s1c said...

Just to echo Mayor Deebs:

I would rather be with the people of this town than with the finest people in the world.

Lester getting some ugly swings so far. I love it.

Amy said...

Fox being nice to Tek. I won't complain about that.

Erin said...

That was a legitimate bad play from Manny in left. I bet we hear about it for a while now.

tim said...

Ahh the ol' plan it as you go along and sample more and more...hahaha. that should be fun to read about!

Wine day will probably be around my B-Day, when is the BBQ? I think I recall you mentioning that it might be earlier in the month next year...

WOW what a HUUUUUGE outfield!

laura k said...

"We said that when the series was going to move west, the spacious outfield..."

You did? Really? We must have missed it!

Amy said...

So did Denver build this BIIIIG field because of the thin air? Or was just because they do everything BIIIG out west?

laura k said...

Ahh the ol' plan it as you go along and sample more and more...hahaha. that should be fun to read about!

Heh. Yeah.

Wine day will probably be around my B-Day, when is the BBQ?

I don't yet, but I'll try to coordinate with you, why not.

laura k said...

Nice K!

tim said...

Oh, and re: niagara on the lake...

really? yeah, i didn't think that...but i guess i hear a lot about it so that makes sense. it can't be worse than the falls area itself.

i hate going down there, clifton hill et al, but they have a beautiful hotel, the doubletree, that we like to stay at. probably going down for the girlfriend's birthday in december, along with dinner at the kickass italian joint she found.

TU-k-LO!

Amy said...

Good for you, Jon. Strike him out.

allan said...

TT being CI.

Erin said...

I don't want to see every ballpark built identically, but I've always thought the variations in the parks are strange. This is the only major sport where every field doesn't have to meet the official regulations, at least when it comes to foul territory and the outfield, obviously.

laura k said...

But the Falls has the Falls. NOTL was just busloads of tourists. Beautiful area, homes, all that stuff, but I'd rather stay in a no-name town somewhere.

Oo, losercam! It's started!

Re ballparks, variation is such a huge part of our sport. It was horrible when it was moving away from that, and so good it has gone back in the right direction.

laura k said...

Tim, the big thing this year is we're not staying over - meaning someone has to drive home. Not ideal.

tim said...

Re ballparks, variation is such a huge part of our sport. It was horrible when it was moving away from that, and so good it has gone back in the right direction.

Yeah, true. Could you imagine how shitty it would be if every park was built like the SKYDOME. Ugh, boooorrrring!

Amy said...

One of the great charms of Fenway is all its odd angles. One of the most boring thing about Shea, in contrast, is how uninteresting its field dimensions are.

tim said...

Laser show?

laura k said...

The whole generation of cookie-cutter parks is pretty much gone now, or about to be.

laura k said...

Laser show, love it!

tim said...

Tim, the big thing this year is we're not staying over - meaning someone has to drive home. Not ideal.

Very unideal. Hey, look at that! Firefox recognized it as a word! Anyway yeah, thats shitty, I think we're going to try to get a group of people together and rent some sort of vehicle to transport us...As long as theres no driving for the "samplers"!

laura k said...

Can't compare Fenway and Shea in the same sentence! One is a gem, the other a trash can.

Fenway has always been my favourite park, long before I was a Sox fan. I HATE Shea.

s1c said...

One of the great charms of Fenway is all its odd angles. One of the most boring thing about Shea, in contrast, is how uninteresting its field dimensions are.

Did a geometry project in HS using Fenway as the model. All, those angles!!

tim said...

Anyone else getting sick of hearing buck saying "he took a RRRRRRRRRRip!"

laura k said...

We're going without a DD. Everyone is drinking. I think we'll probably go pretty easy, tho. And drive home very slowly.

laura k said...

I am sick of that!

Amy said...

My brother has a friend who is an absolute rabid Yankee fan, to the point that she travels all over to watch them on the road. Even she admits that Fenway is the best place to watch a game.

I think it is time for Manny to make his mark. And not by his fielding. I think his hair/helmet distracted him last night.

Erin said...

I would just like to see the Lakers or Celtics suddenly decide to add some "unique" corners at the baseline or something.

I don't want cookie cutter ballparks, either. I just think it's interesting that baseball is the only sport that allows such differences in each park.

laura k said...

Baseball is definitely unusual that way, if not unique.

tim said...

Yeah, as long as the driver takes it easy. I'm not one of those people that crucifies someone for drinking a couple then driving. I realize that you need a bit more to inebriate your motor skills. But if you're just fucked out of your tree and want to drive, well that's a different story...

tim said...

This Chili on your Nachos Belgrande commercial is fucking pissing me off too. That guy is incredibly obnoxious, the "older bro" - and sounds like Andy from "The Office"

laura k said...

Tim, I agree. I personally can't stand to drive when I've had anything to drink. And I've lived long enough to know firsthand the results of driving blotto.

But money is tight right now, and I have a writing deadline, so an overnight is not good and I wanna go! :)

So we're being a bit irresponsible.

Ofer said...

How many years has Mastercard gone with the 'priceless' thing? I think it's at least 12.

allan said...

golf courses are different.

Amy said...

Tim, I think it really depends on the person. I won't drive after one drink because I know my reflexes are affected. I really can feel it. Harvy, on the other hand, has no trouble drinking after two or three glasses of wine. His reflexes after drinking are better than mine when I am stone sober.

nixon33 said...

ok lester hang a 0.

laura k said...

to the point that she travels all over to watch them on the road.

If that's the definition, sign me up on the rabid club. Baseball road trips are my favourite thing.

laura k said...

It's interesting to think about how different this feels compared to 2004. That was a completely unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This is so great, so much fun, so much joy - just pure joy - none of the other stuff. :)

Erin said...

True about golf courses, but I think the difference there is that the individual golfer is playing against the course. The whole point of the game is to get the best of certain elements of the course.

Baseball players take advantage of elements of the different parks, to be sure, but they're also playing against another team.

I'll amend my original comment to say that baseball is the only team sport that allows such variance.

allan said...

yerry - 1st manager in history to win his first 7 world series games.

laura k said...

They're just gonna talk right through that incredible catch????

Ofer said...

ok lester hang a 0.

Heh, Nixon breaking a streak of 22 posts that had nothing to do with what's going on in the game (announcer stuff doesn't count).

Erin said...

What's up with Lugo and the leather in this series? Nicely done.

Amy said...

That was not a criticism of my brother's friend (i.e., the road trip thing). I envy the fact that she has both the time and the financial resources to do that. She is also extrememly generous---often invites us to games at Fenway where she buys incredible tickets and at Yankee Stadium, where she has a great box of season's tickets (the latter we have only accepted one since getting to the Bronx is not as easy (or as exciting) as getting to Boston). THe only problem with going to games at Fenway with her is that I have to tolerate all her anti-Red Sox venom since I am her guest. I just parry back, but it does get exhausting.

s1c said...

Wait I thought sLugo was a liability with his glove? another great catch!!!

Well yeah, I think if you can feel it then, no. But I know I've been DDing before and had a beer and people looked at me, shocked. I'm like "its ONE beer! it doesn't do anything!" I know a lot of ppl are different, but it takes a bit more to get me goin...

laura k said...

I knew it wasn't a criticism.

Lester being quite impressive. I know I shouldn't be thinking ahead, but next season should be amazing with Dice K adjusted to the US, JD adjusted to Boston, Lester back fully fit, LBJ and ROY leading off the batting order, and the regulars keeping the history going.

But I am getting ahead. 2007 is here and now, and I love it!

1. Lester and Crisp probably doesn't even come close to getting that deal done.
2. I think the FO might be wary of trading Lester after his feel-good-story season. Of course, getting Santana would probably minimize the critics.

laura k said...

Yup, I agree. That's one thing (of many) that I love about our FO. They are not sentimental. If they could get rid of Nomar - the biggest gutsy, hard-nosed move we'll ever see - they will get rid of Lester if it will improve the team.
